“Alone, With G-d,” is a new and unique multimedia program designed for Chabad Houses with their current “virtual community” needs in mind.
The program explores through film and study journals of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, much of which was written during his years as a refugee in Nazi Europe.
Film
Combining readings of eight entries from these journals with stunning archival footage from the time and place in which they were written, this 35 minute film offers a powerful and immediate encounter with the Rebbe’s way of thinking in the face of devastating uncertainty.
Study
One of the entries featured in the film is explored further in a series of in-depth classes that study the entry “inside,” allowing the audience a firsthand experience to the way the Rebbe thought and wrote. The entry explores such central topics of Hashgocho Protis, Dirah B’Tachtonim, and the centrality of man to both.
The package includes both the film and a three class curriculum. You have to choice to hold your classes either before the film as a preparation or after the film as a follow up.
Can the film be shown by itself?
Absolutely. We actually recommend showing it by itself, and following it with a Q&A conversation. A conversation guide for the Q&A is included as well.
What else does the package include?
The package includes a conversation guide for a Q&A conversation after the film. It also includes a full publicity package, including editable e-flyer, web banner and facebook event image. The generic trailer above is included as well.
How do I receive the materials?
All materials are sent to you via digital link. Publicity materials are available immediately, and the film and curriculum will be ready next week, May 10.
What makes this program especially relevant to today?
This program is not a Holocaust program. Though the entries were written during the war, they are focused on how an individual confronts a world that suddenly feels hostile, vast and unfamiliar. In some ways - and thankfully it is only some - this is how many of us feel today. A study of the Rebbe’s thinking during those challenging times offers all of us new ways of how to think constructively - even during devastating times.
Is it a sad or hopeful program?
There is no question that the times in which these entries were written was a sad time. But after we see how the Rebbe spoke during the darkest of times we also see how he spoke after the war ended. There is sadness, but there is also the profoundest kind of hope. In a time where many are offering easy answers and solutions, this program suggests new questions, and perhaps more importantly a new way to ask them.

FEEDBACK:
“A tour de force!
Seeks, discovers, listens to words we truly need to hear today. The film invites, demands reflection upon history... and what may be found in its darkest moments. You have gifted us nourishment especially for this corona time.
Merci!”

“ “Alone, with G-d,” is the haunting tale of a disciple reaching out to his Rebbe across the expanse of time and place.
With vintage footage documenting the increasingly precarious position of Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis, Avtzon brilliantly reconstructs the circumstances under which the Reshimos were written in the years 1935 to 1947.
Tastefully done and classically understated, this is the gift Avtzon has given us.”

“I feel that there are parallels, always, bridging past and present human struggles. We are in one now. Your presentation, your words, your voice convey a powerful and steadfast hope for all of us. You bring forth the Rebbe’s guidance solidly and reliably. I am comforted by your respectful and joyful outlook...to stand alone, yet be moved by another’s outlook. I am happy to have met the Rebbe in person twice, but even if I had never met him, I met him meaningfully, tonight.”
